Home Composting Pot

I am glad to announce that my first experiment in home composting is bearing fruits for me.
   After settling in pune i began home composting after combining the idea of daily dump earthen pots and my friend Sejal's Bucket composting. As I had no spare old plastic bucket to use as a container and unconvinced to add more plastic in my life, the mud pot came to rescue. The solution was to buy a big earthen pot from a potter, get the bottom hole closed and  make some holes in the wall of the pot for air circulation. The deal was sealed for 80 bucks.

The container served the purpose and now its full to its capacity. It took 1 month to completely fill it with 2 times a day of regular cooking for a single person. And as any home composting bin can, this one could manage all the organic waste of my kitchen.

More information on home composting can me found on Daily dump which also sells home composting kits. Its was very informative and has helped me to understand the basics and process of composting in a well defined step by step manner. Though I was taken aback by the cost of their composting kits.

Moreover home composting is a natural process, all one has to do is facilitate and leave it rest to nature to take care of it. It worked for me. The bottom layer of the waste has decomposed in a healthy way, no foul smells. However at some instance i saw some flys like creatures building up, but after adding neem powder available from the pot wala they were taken care of.
 
 

Khadi Shops in Pune

The name of the shops are not memorable to me ,but they are located right right next to the famous Dagduseth temple on Laxmi road.
One shop is right on the road to the temple.
The other shop is in the lane towards the temple.

These times of half baked “knowledge”

In this herd of mediocrity I find myself suffocating. It’s breathtakingly difficult to hold on your nerves.
My choices make me a misfit among majority of flocks in this world. Every person today is a self proclaimed hub of “knowledge”. It’s a different matter though the stuff they call “knowledge” is just bits and pieces of information most of the time rotting inside their heads. When information is not put to scrutiny, when the urge to seek is dormant or rather dead; can one hardly touch the tip of knowledge? Such a gorge of information with lack of critical questioning and thoughtful deliberation makes one nothing but the current marvel of the Indian economical society “the up growing middle-class”. It’s disheartening to see mankind reduced to such shabbiness.
This state more than often leads them towards modern day seekers who help to fill the voids by adding a little more garnishing to their misinformed lives. The end is very fulfilling and satisfying in an all together different context. When a saintly clad guru assures you some hollow ideals keeping your comfort zone intact, with no step towards self change is the last nail in the coffin. All hope of any thoughtfulness and an individual's natural evolving traits are lost.
In the midst of these dried souls it’s a rarity to see an individual carving out a path based on profound convictions and depth of understanding. It’s been long time to have interacted with a lively and spirited heart. In the middle of an ocean today my heart finds itself perching on sand dunes under a scorching sun.

Hows Pune ?

Today it's my 20th day in the city.And I am frequented by this usual and common question "Hows Pune". I end up with a well rehearsed reply, all thanks to opinions from handful of people in my life.Before moving to the city,every person I know who is not from Pune described the city from his/her linking quotient. For some it was a place with moderate temperature, for some an access point for touring the places surrounding it, to some a second home away from woes of a metropolis. All of this cumulatively forms my answer.

Over the past few days i started taking this question seriously although I do brush off people with rehearsed replies, but what counts is answer that circulates through my grey cells. What difference it makes if its Delhi, Pune, Calcutta or Cochin? The driving forces behind these growing towns are no different from each other. The typical ambitions fueling the current breed of people holds same ground. Monetary valuations have become synonymous with purpose and goals of people’s life. Those who have it want more; those with more love to flaunt it for them and the rest, those who don’t possess try their best to make it. In midst of all why any Pune or Delhi matter to this maverick.
There is the same aloofness in the middle and young age groups, they are happy in cultivating and nurturing the market value system quite ignorant of the world around. The American Dream of Economic opulence has firmly gripped young minds and heart and what’s left of Indianess is its mysticism, dogmatism ideals that they behold as their "Indian Values" .The unmindful attitude of modern day consumers, incivility, disconnectedness of citizens from their duties are all rampant in same degree as they are in any other indian city. In anycase this is quite a omnipresent phenomena of present times and that makes Pune all the way similar to any other city I have lived. So the good news for lovers of Globalization is East to West Their India is getting similar in taste just like Mc Donald’s/KFC Burgers (to avoid any confusion I not much of a fan of their food).

This state of yet another human civilization hub invites prompt deliberations towards its self sustenance in the longer term. The unplanned concrete structures, unregulated infrastructure expansion of city walls, extremely poor public service systems, absence of waste management practices. Such a complete neglect of sustainable public welfare/development work aims only towards disastrous consequences with local communities/natural sources (water,jungles) and other living beings further bearing the burden of another “success” story unfolding in the name of Pune.
The happy go lucky citizens need to awaken to their city’s call and seek active participation in their own future. Everyone wants to invest in infrastructure bonds, real state hubs but a timely change in their "investment" equation can reap better results in future.

Now I am able to say at least I know some of Pune !
